Source quality

Transparency in the index

This page isolates the transparency part of the index. It counts how many of the 30 comparison parameters are published on each house’s own pages, how many rely on secondary or lower-confidence sources, and how many are not published in the material reviewed.

What counts as transparent

A parameter is treated as transparent when the venue, its hotel booking page, its regulator, or another official property source publishes the value used in the index. A published official room count, a printed check-in time, a named loyalty programme, or a parking page with conditions can all count. If the venue does not publish the field, the cell is marked not published in the 30-parameter table.

Secondary sources are not ignored, but they are labelled. Wikipedia, tourism listings, press listings and search snippets are separated from venue pages. For example, some room counts and opening years are available only by secondary sources. Those entries can help a reader understand the property, but they do not receive the same source-quality treatment as a venue-published number.

The scoring method is set out in method and weights. Transparency is one of five groups and contributes 15 points to the total. The main ranking still follows the full score, not this page alone. Readers comparing source quality with hotel, leisure, dining and access results can use scores by group.

Patterns across the ten houses

The highest transparency counts appear where the official site publishes hotel facilities, dining lists, parking conditions, hours and loyalty information in one place. Crown Melbourne, Crown Perth and Reef Hotel Casino have many official cells, although Crown Melbourne and Crown Perth still use secondary room-count and opening-year material in the FACTS set.

The Star Gold Coast has the largest reliance on secondary or medium-confidence entries in this review. The FACTS set includes official material for Dorsett Gold Coast, but some precinct-wide items, including room totals, theatre capacity and casino-floor size, rely on secondary or medium-confidence sources. The Star Brisbane publishes more current official material for The Star Grand, parking, the Sky Deck, public transport and event spaces, but some fields remain not published.

Several regional properties publish useful facility information but leave numeric capacity fields blank. Wrest Point prints detailed casino hours and convention capacities. Country Club Tasmania publishes room categories, dining names and gaming hours, but its total room count is not printed on fetched official pages. Mindil Beach Casino Resort publishes facilities, dining names, bars and gaming-machine hours, while its total room count is conflicting across external sources and not printed by the venue.

How to read a blank

A blank is not a negative judgement about a hotel’s operation. It means the value was not found in the published sources available to this index. If a venue does not print a pet policy, an accessibility summary, a convention capacity or a transport stop, the index does not estimate it. The cell remains not published and affects transparency.

Some gaps are deliberate exclusions. Australia bans online casino play under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, and this site covers physical venues only. Casino details are described as property facts, not as a reason to visit. Minimum casino-entry age is 18 across the states and territories, but venue pages vary in how directly they publish that rule.

Changes also matter. Treasury Brisbane closed on 25 August 2024 and is not included as an operating house. The Star Brisbane opened at Queen’s Wharf in 2024 and carries current fields separately. For a venue-by-venue read, start with all ten profiles, then check the source-quality notes in each parameter row.

Dates, headcount and the parameters that matter to you. The desk checks rates and availability with the hotel or a booking partner and replies by email, usually within one working day. No payment details are taken.

The index is free to read and is funded by hotel referrals: if a reader opens a hotel's site from here and books, or asks the query desk to arrange a stay, the publisher receives a commission from the hotel or a booking partner. Scores are computed from published facts, never from commission.
