Ten-house ranking

Australian casino hotel index

This index ranks ten Australian casino hotels by published information only. Each house is scored against hotel, leisure, dining and entertainment, access, and transparency groups. A missing figure is not estimated. It is marked not published and affects the transparency score. The ranking is for physical venues only; Australia bans online casino play under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

What the index measures

The index uses up to 30 parameters for each house. The groups are hotel, leisure, dining and entertainment, access, and transparency. The scoring weights are set out on the method and weights page: hotel 25, leisure 20, dining and entertainment 20, access 20, and transparency 15.

The hotel group reads room count, opening year, room categories, check-in and check-out, pet policy, and accessibility where the resort publishes them. Leisure covers pools, spa, gym, and waterfront or golf setting. Dining and entertainment covers published restaurants, bars, theatre or showroom capacity, and convention capacity. Access covers airport or city distance, transport, parking, and venue hours.

The transparency group is separate. It counts whether the resort publishes usable information on its own pages, and whether a field needs a secondary source. Crown Melbourne and Crown Perth, for example, publish large dining and access pages, but their room counts in the roster rely on secondary sources. Reef Hotel Casino publishes 128 rooms through Accor, which is treated as a high-confidence source for that field. Mindil Beach Casino Resort has conflicting room-count sources, so the room count is treated as not published in its profile.

Readers who want the source cells rather than the summary score should use the 30-parameter table. The scores by group page shows which group moves each total.

What ‘not published’ means

Not published means the index did not find a usable figure or policy in the FACTS set for that parameter. It does not mean the amenity is absent. It means the resort’s own pages, or an accepted source in the roster, did not publish enough to score that cell as a concrete value.

A blank is not filled from memory. If a resort lists parking but no rate, the rate is not published. If a resort names event rooms but prints no capacity, the capacity is not published. If third-party sources conflict, the profile records the conflict and the scoring treats the field conservatively.

Source quality matters. Venue and regulator pages are preferred. Secondary sources are labelled where they carry a value, such as opening dates, airport-distance context or some room counts. Low-confidence snippets are not used as if they were venue-published facts. This is why two properties with similar facilities can sit apart in the total: a published parameter counts; an unpublished one counts against transparency.

The separate transparency page lists which houses publish more of the index fields on their own pages, and which fields rely on secondary sources.

Update cadence

The roster is dated 23 October 2026 in the FACTS set. Scores follow that dated roster. When a venue changes a hotel brand, opens a restaurant, publishes a parking rate, or removes a capacity figure, the relevant cell is updated before the score is changed.

Time-sensitive regulatory notes are carried plainly. The Star Gold Coast licence note records that the Queensland government extended the Special Manager to 30 September 2026, with no later decision found in the fetched pages. The Star Brisbane record notes its staged opening from 29 August 2024 and the closed Treasury Brisbane casino, which shut at midnight on Sunday 25 August 2024. Treasury Brisbane is not included as an operating house in this index.

The index covers physical Australian venues. Casino floors have an 18+ entry rule across the states and territories in the FACTS set. The site does not offer casino play, does not take stakes, and does not describe online casino access. State regulator and help-line information is grouped separately on the by state page.

The desk

The ranking is designed for comparison first. The profile pages add the source table, group scores and a short verdict for each house. The all ten page is the quickest route to the individual profiles.

The desk is a secondary option for readers who want a room checked against dates, headcount and a preferred house by score. It does not replace the index and does not change a hotel’s score. A desk query can ask for a specific house, a state, or a shortlist from the ranking. The response is limited to hotel-booking information and availability handling.

The commercial model is separate from the scoring. The site may earn from hotel-booking referrals or from a booking partner, but the index is not sold as placement. The full disclosure is on how this site earns. For a direct availability request, use the query the desk page and include dates, rooms, headcount and any access requirements.

query the index

Dates, headcount and the parameters that matter to you. The desk checks rates and availability with the hotel or a booking partner and replies by email, usually within one working day. No payment details are taken.

The index is free to read and is funded by hotel referrals: if a reader opens a hotel's site from here and books, or asks the query desk to arrange a stay, the publisher receives a commission from the hotel or a booking partner. Scores are computed from published facts, never from commission.
