Hotel data

Hotel parameters compared

This guide isolates the hotel-side parameters used in the index: room count, opening year, room-category publication, check-in and check-out, pet policy and accessibility. A blank or “not published” entry is not filled from memory. Secondary-source figures are marked so readers can separate venue-published data from external listings.

How the hotel fields are read

The hotel group is one of the five scoring groups in the method and weights. It covers published accommodation facts rather than casino activity. The table below uses the same roster as the index and the same not-published rule as the 30-parameter table.

Room count is treated as a transparency item as well as a scale item. Where a venue publishes a total, the source quality is higher. Where the only room count comes from Wikipedia, a tourism page or another secondary source, the table says so. If published figures conflict, the table does not average them. Mindil Beach is the clearest example: the official resort site prints no total, and external sources disagree, so the index treats the count as not published even though secondary figures exist.

Opening year is included because it is normally stable, but the source still matters. Crown Melbourne, Crown Perth, Crown Sydney, The Star Gold Coast, Wrest Point, Country Club Tasmania, Mindil Beach and The Ville rely at least partly on secondary sources for this field. The Star Brisbane is different: its staged opening began 29 August 2024, and Treasury Brisbane closed on 25 August 2024 when gaming moved to Queen’s Wharf.

Room categories are counted as published only when names are available in the facts. A category list may cover several hotels inside one complex, as at Crown Melbourne and Crown Perth. It may also cover a single hotel inside a wider precinct, as at The Star Brisbane, where The Star Grand publishes categories while future or associated hotels do not publish room totals in the fetched facts.

What is not filled in

Check-in and check-out are entered only when the hotel publishes fixed times. Crown Melbourne, Crown Perth, The Star Brisbane’s Star Grand and Reef Hotel Casino publish times in the facts. Dorsett Gold Coast publishes a “26-hour Stay” and “Flexible check-in time”, but no fixed times; this is not converted into a standard check-in entry. Several properties publish accommodation pages without fixed times in the fetched material, so the table marks those cells “not published”.

Pet policy is mostly absent across the ten. Reef Hotel Casino is the only entry in this set with a published pet rule: “Pets not allowed”. For the others, the table records not published rather than assuming a no-pets rule. This is important because hotel policies can vary by room type, service-animal requirements and booking channel.

Accessibility is also uneven. Reef Hotel Casino publishes “Wheelchair accessible” and an accessible room. Wrest Point publishes a Deluxe Accessible King and says accessible rooms are available on request in the Tower. Crown Sydney publishes accessible parking via valet, subject to availability, but not a full accessible-room statement in the facts. The Star Brisbane publishes City Accessible Room and River Accessible Room for The Star Grand. Where the official or captured facts do not publish accessibility detail, the cell remains not published.

The same approach is used on the related parameter pages for leisure parameters, dining and entertainment parameters and access parameters. A strong hotel table does not imply a strong total score; the scores by group show how hotel data sits beside leisure, dining, access and transparency.

Notes on multi-hotel precincts

Crown Melbourne and Crown Perth are scored as complexes, not as single towers. Each has Crown Towers, Crown Metropol and Crown Promenade in the facts. Their room counts in the roster sheet are from Wikipedia, while Crown Melbourne also has an official deep-fact phrase: “over 1,600 exquisitely appointed rooms across Crown Towers, Crown Metropol and Crown Promenade”. For the comparison table, the individual room-count sources are still marked secondary where the precise hotel-by-hotel figures come from Wikipedia.

The Star Gold Coast is also a precinct entry. The facts list The Star Grand, The Darling, Dorsett Gold Coast and The Star Residences. Dorsett publishes 313 rooms, while The Star Grand and The Star Residences figures rely on secondary sources and The Darling’s count is unverified because external figures conflict. The room-category field is not published in the captured facts.

The Ville includes The Ville Resort-Casino and Ardo Hotel next door, both under the same address and Morris Group wording in the facts. The Ville’s 194-room count is secondary; Ardo’s 132 rooms are published on Ardo’s site. Because the indexed house is The Ville Resort-Casino, the hotel parameter line records both where relevant and marks the source quality.

For individual property context, use all ten profiles. Each profile keeps the same rule: a published value is quoted, a secondary-source value is labelled, and a missing value is not estimated.

Dates, headcount and the parameters that matter to you. The desk checks rates and availability with the hotel or a booking partner and replies by email, usually within one working day. No payment details are taken.

The index is free to read and is funded by hotel referrals: if a reader opens a hotel's site from here and books, or asks the query desk to arrange a stay, the publisher receives a commission from the hotel or a booking partner. Scores are computed from published facts, never from commission.
